Privacy Policy
This page explains what information Audiophile Compare collects, why, and who it's shared with. Audiophile Compare is run by an individual, not a registered company.
What I collect
If you create an account, I collect your email address. If you register with a password, I store a securely hashed version of it — never the password itself. If you sign in with Google, I receive whatever profile information Google shares (typically your name and email address). I also store whatever you choose to enter using the service: hi-fi systems and their snapshots, tracks, tests, the clip URLs you submit, and your votes, including any optional written observation. Some accounts and content originate from public hi-fi forum posts I've imported rather than from someone registering directly — see "Imported" badges around the site — using a placeholder account until the original poster claims it (see below).
How I use it
This information is used only to run the service — to keep you signed in, to show your own tests and votes back to you, and to display published tests in the public feed. I don't run advertising and I don't use any analytics or tracking tools.
Third parties
Audiophile Compare is built on Supabase, which stores the database and handles sign-in, and is hosted on Vercel. If you choose to sign in with Google, Google acts as your identity provider for that sign-in only — I don't receive any other data from Google. Clips you submit are links to media hosted elsewhere (YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive, or a direct file URL you provide) — I don't host that media myself, though an automated check periodically confirms a direct link is still reachable.
Cookies
The only cookies this service sets are the ones Supabase Auth uses to keep you signed in. They're essential to the service working and aren't used for advertising or tracking.
Your rights and data deletion
You can update your display name, email, and password from your profile page at any time. There's currently no self-service way to delete your account — if you'd like your account and data removed, email me and I'll action it. If content imported from a public forum post (see above) is actually yours, you can have it attributed to your own account instead of deleted — the same email address will start that process.
Children
This service isn't directed at children under 16.
